When Can I Start?

We always welcome beginners at any one of our instructional classes on Monday, Thursday, and Friday nights.

If you are looking for a class specifically geared towards beginners, we set aside the first Saturday of each month for our New Fighters Class. During this class we will introduce you to what Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) is and you'll get to try a bit of everything the Phoenix Society has to offer.

Ages 15+.

What Do I Wear?

For your first session we recommend wearing comfortable work out clothes. Please wear shoes that do not have a heavy tread as we practice on padded floors.

The Phoenix Society has a wealth of equipment necessary for practice and sparring. Loaner gear is available at no extra cost to students.

Required equipment for continued practice: 
-Athletic cups for men
-Closed toe shoes
-Chest protectors for everyone are highly recommended.

If you plan to continue your HEMA practice, we highly recommend purchasing your own equipment. When ready, our suggested gear list can be checked out here.

When Is Class?

Monday:            7-9pm (Longsword, All levels welcome!)
Wednesday:     7-9pm (Armored Fighting Class, Intermediate Sparring Practice, All Weapons)
Thursday:          7-9pm (Rapier, All levels welcome!)
Friday:                7-9pm (Saber, All levels welcome!)
Saturday :         10am-1pm (Sparring Day, All Weapons)

First Saturday of the month:      12:30 PM-1:30PM (New Fighter Class, Beginner Specific)

Additional Groups at Phoenix Society location:
Arizona Naginata Kenkyu Kai and Phoenix Kendo Kai: 
Tuesday: 5:30pm - 7pm (Naginata), 7pm - 8:30pm (Kendo)
Saturday: 3pm - 5pm (Naginata), 5pm - 7pm (Kendo)

Phoenix Saber Academy, LED Saber Combat:  
Every other Sunday: 6pm-8pm

What Does It Cost?

To cover club operational costs (rent, AC, loaner equipment) and expense in the rare case of injury, all members must pay fees to the club and must enroll in insurance through the HEMAA as members of the Phoenix Society at only $26 for the year. https://www.hemaalliance.com/memberships

Drop Ins: $20 per session.
 
Memberships (All classes included):

Quarterly: $300 Available January, April, July, and  October.
 
Half-Year: $500  Available January and July.

Yearly:      $850  Available in January.
